Inserting Part 3

In this Task

  • The 2D sketch geometry of Part 3 will be inserted into the editor from the Blocks palette.
  • The inserted Block will be exploded.
  • Part 3 will be isolated in the editor thereby hiding Parts 1 and 2.

Associated Tasks

  • Using the Design Director to manage the visibility of layers.

Before you Start

  • Use your drawing which was saved in the previous Session or make use of the sample drawing for this Session.
  • Make sure both Parts 1 and 2 are displayed in the editor. Use the Design Director to switch layers on or off.
  • The view is set to Isometric South East; Workplane is displayed and set to Plane by World.
  • This Session uses the Ribbon menu and Workspace. Select the Ribbon menu from the start-up menu or view these instructions on how to switch to the Ribbon workspace from the Default menu.

Take Note

  • Make sure the new sketch geometry for Part 3 which is inserted into the editor from the Blocks palette has enough space to produce the 3D object.

 

Parts 1 and 2 are displayed in the editor.

Using the Design Director to control layer visibility

Inserting a Part from the Blocks palette

Tools | Palettes | Blocks

Make sure the view is set to Isometric South East. The Workplane is displayed and is set to Plane by World.

Pan the drawing sheet so that the models of Part 1 and Part 2 are towards the left of the editor, shown below.

Activate as current the layer Part 3 Sketch.

Open the Blocks palette, then drag Part 3 Sketch into the editor, shown below.

Select the newly inserted part, then use Modify | Explode to return it to its constituent geometry. After the Block of this part is exploded, it will automatically be placed on the layer on which it was originally constructed, Part 3 Sketch, shown below.

Make sure Part 3 occupies sufficient space in the editor to produce the 3D parts.

Isolate Objects

Select only the sketch profile of Part 3, shown above, then select Edit | Isolate Objects to show only Part 3 in the editor. Parts 1 and 2 will remain hidden until the isolation is ended.

Save Drawing

This drawing is continued in the next Task.
