The PARALLEL Tool

In this Task

• Parallel lines will be offset from the edges of the rectangle.

Take Note

• The Offset field should be locked throughout this task. Lock the padlock directly above the Offset field.
• Menu options for the Default menu and workspace, the Ribbon and Palettes are provided directly under the Command Name heading.

Ribbon : Draw | Draw 2D | Line | Parallel

Default Menu : Draw | Line | Parallel

Palette : Sketch | Line | Parallel

Creates a parallel line at a specified offset distance from an existing line.The distance is input into the Offset field of the Inspector Bar.The Offset data field can be locked when a fixed offset distance is required.The newly created line is inserted onto the current layer.

Select the Parallel tool from the menu options above.

Use the keyboard TAB key to access the data fields of the Inspector Bar, shown below. Into the Offset field, input 20, making sure the field is locked. This is indicated by the locked or unlocked padlock, shown below.

Left click onto the left vertical edge of the rectangle, then move the cursor to the right of this line.

Left click when a new line appears to the right of the selected edge, shown below.

Use the keyboard TAB key to again access the Offset field and input a value of 95. Left click onto the left vertical edge of the rectangle and move the cursor towards the right of this line. Left click when the a new line appears to the right of the selected line, shown below.

Use the keyboard TAB key to again access the Offset field and input a new value of 30. Select the top horizontal edge, then move the cursor below the selected line. Left click when the new line appears midway between the top and bottom edges of the rectangle, shown below.
