Measurement Info

Estimated reading: 3 minutes 5 views
Ribbon : Tools | Measurement
Default : Tools | Inquiry

Dimensional and measurement information can be extracted from the drawing.

All measurement information is displayed in the Measurement Palette which is displayed when the DistanceAngle or Area tool is activated.

When measuring any object where the result is displayed in the Measurement Info Palette, shown below, the Keep History option, shown below can be activated. This retains the measurement information of selected objects until the Clear Content option is selected.

The Edit tool is also used to find radial and diametric information.

The default calculation units must be selected from the status bar.

Retaining the measurement information using ‘Keep History’

Distance

Ribbon : Tools | Measurement | Distance
Default : Tools | Inquiry | Distance

This measurement tool calculates the distance between two or more points.

Delta X Y distances and angles are provided when measuring between 2 points, shown in the palette above.

The Measurement Palette is displayed when the Distance tool is activated.

Perimeter

Ribbon : Tools | Measurement | Distance
Default : Tools | Inquiry | Distance
Tools | Inquiry | Distance

The Distance tool is used to target successive points to calculate a perimeter.

The Measurement palette is used to display the perimeter measurement.

Angle

Ribbon : Tools | Measurement | Angle
Default : Tools | Inquiry | Angle

An angular measurement can be found by defining the angle vertices.

The ‘By Entity’ option can be used to define the angle of 2 selected lines.

The Measurement palette is displayed when activating the Angle tool.

A temporary angular dimension is inserted onto the measured objects which is remove when this measurement function is terminated.

Area

Ribbon : Tools | Measurement | Area
Default : Tools | Inquiry | Area

This measurement tool calculates the surface area of a 2 dimensional plane.

The Measurement palette is displayed when activating the Area tool.

The ‘By Entity’ option can be used to define the angle of 2 selected lines.

A hatched area is displayed in the measured objects which is removed when this measurement function is terminated.

Curve Length

Ribbon : Tools | Measurement | Curve Length
Default : Tools | Inquiry | Curve Length

This measurement tool measures the total length of a curved line such as a spline, bezier curve or polyline created using the arc segment option.

The total length only is displayed in the Measurement palette, not the distances between the control or fit points.

Options which can be used when using the Measurement tools are :

  • By Entity – this allows the object to be selected instead of measuring specific vertices.
  • By Unit -this allows the result to be displayed in a selection of measurement units such a mm, inch, decimal feet etc.

Volume

Ribbon : Tools | Measurement | Volume
Default : Tools | Inquiry | Volume

Computes the volume of a 3D object. The history of such calculations can be retained or discarded using the Keep History option in the top left corner of the Measurement Info dialog box.

Calculating the volume of the object in cubic mm

Surface Area

Ribbon : Tools | Measurement | Surface Area
Default : Tools | Inquiry | Surface Area

Computes the surface area of a facet of a part. The history of such calculations can be retained or discarded using the Keep History option in the top left corner of the Measurement Info dialog box.

Calculating the surface area of the selected facet, units shown as mm

Take Note

When outputting the calculated volumes and surface , the default units must be selected from the status bar, shown below.

Setting the default units to mm

The Measurement palette displays information only. It cannot be used to change the dimensional measurements of the selected object. Use the Selection Info palette to adjust dimensional measurements where applicable.
