Drawing the first Rectangle

In this Task

• A Rectangle will be inserted to a specific size determined by values input into the Inspector Bar.

Associated Tasks

• Using the Zoom Extents tool.

Before you Start

• Start a new drawing using the New from Template option and select the Student_2D template.
• The Tools palette is required.   
• The Sketch > Line menu is used.

 

Take Note

• The Student_2D template is recommended as it contains basic drawing settings to assist with the completion of the tasks in this Training Guide.
• The Profile layer will automatically be activated as the current layer when selecting the Rectangle tool.
• Colors of objects in the images may differ from the objects on your screen.

Rectangle

Ribbon : Draw | Draw 2D | Line | Rectangle

Default Menu : Draw | Rectangle

Palette : Sketch | Line | Rectangle

This tool draws a rectangle by defining the size A (width) and the size B (length) values.Rectangles are drawn by establishing a point and dragging the cursor to the diagonally opposing corner.A rectangle can be drawn with filleted corners by selecting the fillet corners and inputting a radius.

Select the Rectangle tool from the menu options above, then left click an intended lower left corner of the rectangle in the graphics editor.

Use the keyboard TAB key to access the Size A field of the Inspector Bar. Input 135 to represent the ‘length’ of the rectangle, then use the TAB key to move to the Size B field.

Input 60, then press Enter to pass this information to the drawing area.

The newly drawn rectangle should be visible in the graphics editor, similar to the illustration below. If the rectangle is not displayed, use the Zoom Extents tool to view the extents of the graphics editor.

Take Note

The extents of the workspace can be viewed using the keyboard keys CTRL-Backspace.

The Plus or Minus keys of the keyboard can be used to increase or decrease the zoom area.
