Assembling Part 3

An axle was created in the previous task which will now provide a convenient assembly guide for Part 3. Both Part 3 and the newly drawn axle shown below are cylindrical in shape and share a common axis.

In this task, the center of extents of Part 3 will be assembled onto the center of extents of the new axle shown below, thereby aligning both parts by their central axis.

End the isolation of the Parts, then display only Parts 1, 2 and 3.

Using the center of extents of the axle to assemble Part 3

Right click onto the SNAP tab at the base of the graphics editor and remove all snaps with the exception of the Center of Extents snap. Activate the SNAP tab.

Making sure the Workplane is set to Plane by World, drag Part 3 directly onto the center of extents of the newly drawn axle, shown below.

Use different viewports to check the correct alignment of Part 3 prior to proceeding.

Always view the model from different viewpoints to check the assembly.

In the illustration above left, the structural lines of the model is shown through the rendering. This can be used as an efficient interference-checking tool. To do this, right click on the Render tools and set the options shown below.

Additionally, the color of a layer can be changed without changing the layer itself. In this example, a different color was used for Part 3.
