Drawing Layout

Model Space, also referred to as the graphics editor, is the area in which the sketch geometry of the drawing is produced at full scale. Annotations in the form of hatching and dimensions are also produced in the model space area.A View of the drawing is created which is then inserted into the Paper Space layout as a viewportPaper Space is the area where viewports of the drawing are assembled and the ‘virtual scale’ of the viewport is created here.Text notes and title blocks are also inserted into the Paper Space area. This is always set to the real-life, physical size of the paper onto which the drawing should be printed.Modifications performed on the sketch in the Model Space area are automatically updated in the relevant viewport in the Paper Space area.

In Model Space, select Create View from the menu options above, and drag a selection rectangle around the entire floor plan.

Creating a View

Name this view ‘Plan’.

Inserting a Viewport

Ribbon : Insert | Insert Objects | Viewport
Default Menu : View | Viewports | Viewport
Palette : Named View | Insert Viewport
Paper Space is the area where viewports of the drawing will be assembled and the ‘virtual scale’ of the viewport is created here.Text notes and title blocks are also inserted into the Paper Space area. This is always set to the real-life, physical size of the paper onto which the drawing is printed.Modifications performed on the sketch in the Model Space area are automatically updated in the relevant viewport in the Paper Space area.

Select the Arch B template from the bottom of the graphics editor, then select Viewportfrom the menu options above. Create the view in the approximate position to that shown below.

Creating the first viewport layout

Click onto the Plan View, then select Go ToClose.

Insert the same viewport alongside this, shown below.

Creating the second viewport

Viewport Layers

In the second viewport, only the layer for the roof will be visible. Double click onto the second viewport border and deactivate all but the Roof layer, shown below.

Click OK. The result is shown below. Please note, the viewports are not to scale at this stage. More information on Viewport Scale here .

Layer control allows different layers to be visible in different viewports

New views can be created in model space and inserted into the paper layout. An example is shown below.

In this example, the view was changed in Model space to Front. A view was created called ‘Front

This new view was inserted into the drawing layout. In the Viewport properties, the Rendering was set to Hidden Line.

All viewport borders were removed by unchecking the Visible Box option in the Viewport Properties

Text was inserted in the drawing layout.
