Offsetting onto the current Layer

In this Task

  • A line will be offset and the source layer (the layer from which the line is offset) will be applied to the new object.

Associated Tasks

  • Concentric Circles.

 

Before you Start

  • Snap modes not required for the Offset task.
  • Snap modes required for the insertion of the concentric circles.

Take Note

  • The Parallel tool creates an offset from a line, placing the newly offset line on the current layer.
  • The Offset tool allows the user to select whether the new line should be on the current layer, or on the same layer as the source object.
  • Menu options for the Default menu and workspace, the Ribbon and Palettes are provided directly under the Command Name heading.

 

Offsetting a line using the Source Layer

Ribbon : Modify | 2D Modifications | Offset
Default Menu : Modify | Offset | Offset
This duplication tool offsets a line, arc or circle to the inside or outside of the selected object.Layer properties can be controlled so that the copied object remains on the current layer or uses the layer of the object from which it is offset.

Select the Offset tool from the menu options above, then select the Layer option from the Inspector Bar, shown below.

Select the option for Source, shown below.

Input a value of 98 into the Distance field, shown above and press Enter.

Select the main horizontal center line, then left click somewhere above the selected line. The result is shown below.

Concentric Circles

Ribbon : Draw | Draw 2D | Circle/Ellipse | Concentric
Default Menu : Draw | Circle | Concentric
Palette : Sketch | Circle/Ellipse | Concentric Circles
The Concentric Circle tool draws a series of circles at different radii from the same center point.The radii or diameters are input into the data fields of the Inspector Bar.

Using the newly created intersection, insert 2 concentric circles with diameters of 17 and 33, shown below.
