2D Profile to 3D Objects

In this Task 

The area of the rectangle and the circle will be combined using 2D Add

A 3D thickness value will be provided to create an extrusion.

Before you Start 

The view is set to World Plan.

Workplane is displayed.

2D profiles to 3D objects

2D Closed profiles can be converted to a 3D solid object by extruding or changing the profiles thickness.A solid created as the result of an extrusion will retain its original profile. When the 3D thickness feature is used, the original profile is discarded.

2D Boolean Add

Ribbon : Modify | 2D Boolean Operations | 2D Add
Default Menu : Modify | 2D Boolean Operations | 2D Add
Palette : 3D Model | Boolean & Facet | 2D Add
This boolean function creates a combined region of 2 intersecting or adjoining profiles.
 

Select 2D Add from the menu options above then select the circle and rectangle in any order.

The result is shown below.

3D Thickness & Solid Mode

Next, turn the view to Isometric South Westand select the new profile. 

Input a value of 40 into the 3D thickness field of the Selection Info palette.

Make sure the Solid Mode is set to Solid, shown below.

Setting this thickness to 40; setting the solid mode to ‘Solid’

The result should be similar to the illustration below.

The result is produced by checking the Degenerative Faceting option using Options > ACIS.

Take Note 

Remember to check the model from different viewpoints to keep the position of the Workplane in mind.

The Properties palette can also be used to change the 3D thickness of a profile.
