Naming a Component

In this Task 

Each component of the assembly will be named in context with the main assembly. 

Associated Tasks 

Using the Design Director.

Before you Start 

View is set to IsometricSouth East.

Model is displayed in Wireframe mode.

The Drafting Palette is required for this task. Use Tools | Palettes | Drafting.

Do not delete the Blocks of Part-01, Part-02, Part-03 which were inserted into the workspace during the previous task.

Creating & Naming a Component

When a component forms part of an assembly or sub-assembly, it can be named and identified in context with its assembly.Multiple orthographic, isometric and sectional views can then be created automatically of this component.

The parts which comprise the pulley are viewed fully assembled in the workspace, shown below.  Each part is drawn on its own layer, shown below.

Additionally, sketch geometry and the 3D model of each part is stored in the Blocks Palette, shown below.

Select the part below, then use Edit | Isolate to display on this part.

Open the Drafting Palette using Tools | Palettes | Drafting to do this.

Change the CS viewing panel to World CS, shown below.  The part must be selected to do this, shown below.

With the part selected in the workspace, select Create Part/Assembly, shown below.

Creating a Part or Assembly

An arbitrary name, such as that shown below will be created.  This part can now be renamed to a more appropriate label.

Right click onto the name shown above and select Rename. Rename this to Part-01:Eye, shown below.

Repeat this exercise by ending the Isolation of the parts, then isolating only Part 2 shown below.

Create a new component of this part, shown below.

Repeat this for Part 03, the pulley wheel and Part 04,the pin.

Four parts should now be visible in the Drafting Palette, shown below.
