In this Task

A similar profile will be swept through the solid, this time adding material to create the switch.

Associated Tasks

Blending the edges of a cylindrical extrusion.

Before you Start

View is set to Front or Isometric.

Workplane is displayed and is set to Plane by World.

Model is displayed in Wireframe mode.

Take Note

Ribbon : Modify | 3D Modifications | Imprint
Default Menu : Draw | 3D Object | Imprint
Palette : 3D Model | 3D Object | Imprint
The Imprint-Add tool will sweep a 2D profile through a 3D object, combining the volumes of the extrusion and the primary solid.

Using an Isometric view, select the Imprint tool from the menu options above and right click in the editor and select the Properties Sheet. From the Simple Extrude Shape page, make sure the Draft Angle is set to 0.

Select the base of the elliptical shape as the planar face from which the profile will be imprinted upwards, shown below. From the options menu at the base of the workspace, select the Add option, then select the circle profile.

Turn the view to Front, then use the vertex shown below right as the approximate extrusion height of the imprinted circle.

The result is shown below.

Part Tree History

Tools | Selection Info Palette (Part Tree Editing History must be activated in Options | ACIS)
The Selection Info palette contains a feature referred to as Part Tree History. This details a sequential layout of the components, assembly conditions or constraints, features and modifications of the model. The Part Tree History is used to locate related objects by their function and by their relationship to the various components of the model.Modifications can be done to the various features of a model using the information supplied in the Selection Info Palette.Object information will only be displayed in the Selection Info palette when the Part Tree Editing History is activated in Options | ACiS

For example, the cylindrical extrusion shown by the arrow below left was imprinted and added to the primary solid. When selected, however, the part now forms part of the solid, shown below right.

To modify a specific feature of an assembly, the Part Tree History is used. Select the ‘casing’ object shown above right, then open the Selection Info palette.

Select the Imprint > Simple Extrude part, shown by the top arrow below. Next, select the Imprint > Top Blend Type and select the Fillet option. Make the fillet option 4 or similar, owing to the freehand nature of the sketched circles.

Next, use the Fillet Edges tool to create a small radial blend on the outer edge of the elliptical shape. In this example, a radius of 2 was used.

The result is shown below.

Outer edges of imprinted extrusion blended

Take Note

In this example, a radius of 4 was used for the cylindrical extrusion and a radius of 3 was used for the elliptical edge. Owing to the freehand nature of the sketched circles, the radius values may differ from this example.
