Sketch Profile

Estimated reading: 2 minutes 4 views

In this Task

The 2D profile will be produced and dimensioned.

Before you Start

Use the sample drawing for this Session. The Profile & Model are stored in the Blocks palette.

View is set to Isometric South East.

Workplane is set to Plane by World.

The illustration, below is displayed in top view for illustrative clarity only.  The profile can be drawn from any view providing the correct lengths and angles are input.

Take Note

If you prefer to construct this profile from scratch, make sure all entities are joined using Join Polyline. This sketch object cannot be used to produce a 3D model unless all objects are joined.

Sketch Profile

If the sample drawing for this session is used, the profile can be inserted into the drawing from the Blocks palette. Remember to Explode (object is selected) Format | Explode the block after it is inserted into the editor.

After exploding the inserted block, switch of the layer for the dimensions. In this case the layer ‘Dims’ is switched off.

The 2D entities in the editor will be used to produce the model of the support.

If you prefer to construct this profile from scratch, make sure all entities are joined using Join Polyline. This sketch object cannot be used to produce a 3D model unless all objects are joined.

Draw the profile shown below using a continual polyline sequence. If you prefer to construct this profile differently, make sure Join Polyine is used so that the entire profile is a single entity.

Make sure the first and last vertex of the sequence are coincident.

Take note

If you have drawn the profile from scratch, adddimensions the profile, making sure to insert the dimensions onto a designated layer.

Drag a copy of the profile with dimensions into the Blocks palette in case modifications are required at a later stage.

Leave the original profile in the editor and deactivate the layer on which the dimensions were drawn.

The result is shown below.
