Workplane Intersection

In this Task 

The Workplane will be moved to another position on the model. The intersecting plane of the model and the Workplane will be displayed.

The Sphere will be sliced by the Workplane. The sliced lower portion will be used to modify the upper portion of the sphere.

Before you Start 

Set the view to any Isometric view.

The Workplane is displayed.

This Workplane feature shows, by means of a red dashed outline, the plane where the solid object intersects with the Workplane.This Workplane feature is only displayed when Show/Hide Workplane is activated.

Place the Workplane on the top face of the revolved object, shown below, using the Workplane by Facet tool.

To display where the Workplane intersects with the solid, the Show/Hide Workplane Intersection tool is used.

Select Show/Hide Workplane Intersection from the Workplane menu then turn the view to Front and place the Workplane in the approximate position to that shown below using the Workplane Origin tool. 

The intersection of the Workplane and the solid should be displayed, similar to the illustration, below, when rendered using the Draft or Quality Render mode.

3D Slice by Workplane

A solid object can be sliced in the plane where the solid object intersects with the Workplane.The sliced portion, either side of the Workplane, can be retained or discarded.

Select the 3D Slice tool from the menu options above. Select the Slice by Workplane option from the base of the workspace, shown above left.

Use this Workplane to slice the Sphere.  Do not delete the sliced portion at this stage. The 2 separate portions of the sphere are shown below.
