When 3D objects are generated as solid objects, modifications can be carried out to their 3D metrics in the Selection Info palette. When control is required over individual surfaces of a solid, a surface can be created from a solid. When 3D properties are required to be applied to a profile object, solid properties can be applied to a closed sketch object such as a rectangle or circle.

This tool creates a surface object from a 3D solid. This is useful when independent facets of the solid need to be modified without adjusting the original shape of the profile.A face of a solid can be removed completely using the Facet Editor Tool.

Draw a 3D Box which measures approximately 250 x 200 x 150.

Select the box, then select Create Surface > From Solid from the menu options above to convert the facets of the box into surfaces.

Now use the Facet Editor tool, position it over the face shown below, then delete this face.

The result is shown below.

Repeat this, removing the south east face and top face so that the result is similar to the illustration, below.

Surface on Face Offset

A local menu option Offset has been added to the Surface on Face tool. This defines the offset of the surface from the object. When the surface is being created, user has this option to create it with a positive or negative offset from the source object.
