Layer Properties

In this Task 

  • The layer properties of the center lines will be changed by moving the objects to a layer specifically created for this purpose.

Before you Start 

  • A layer called ‘CL’ which represents the center lines was created in the Student template. Whenever a new drawing is started using this template this layer will be available.

Take Note 

  • If you are not using the Student template, a new layer for the center lines can be created in the Design Director. Use Tools > Palettes > Design Director to do this.

Layer Properties

Toolbar found at the top of the editor. Object/s must be pre-selected.
Layers are used so that objects drawn on that layer can be switched on or off. This controls the layers’ visibility. Similarly, the accessibility of objects can be controlled by locking or unlocking the layer.

Select any line which is intended to moved to the CL (center line) layer, then hold down the SHIFT keyboard key to select all other lines which are intended to represent center lines, shown below.

When the center lines are selected, move them to the CL layer using the Layer Properties toolbar, shown below.

The result is shown below.

Take NOTE 

The Design Director can also be used to change the layer properties of an object. Select the lines, then double-click onto the CL layer in the Design Director.

Adjust the pen dash scale of the lines if necessary. Use the Selection Info Tools | Palettes | Selection Info – objects must be pre-selected. palette or the Properties sheet. Select the lines, then use Pen | Dash Scale and input a different value. In this example a scale of .25 is used.
