Draw | Text

Text is inserted into the editor by justifying the Left, Center or Right position.

A height and rotation angle is input into the data fields of the Inspector Bar or the dynamic Input Fields

Multiple lines of text can be input by using ENTER at the end of each line.

The text string and properties can be modified using the Properties sheet.

Single & Multiple Text Lines 

Draw | Text | Multi Text

A single line of text is inserted using this option.

Multiple lines of text are added to the text string by pressing ENTER at the end of each line.

Each line of text is separate and can be edited independently from the other line.

Worked Example

Inputting Single and Multiple Lines of Text

Set the required properties by right clicking onto the Text tool in the Tools palette or the toolbar at the left of the editor, then left click onto the Text tool to start the text input.

At the prompt > Define the start position of the text left click a point in the editor.

Type in the required text.

To add another line of text, press Enter.

Press enter to finish the text input, or use the Finish icon on the status bar.

In the example below, the text has been input to a height of 5 and an angle of 0. Left Aligned text was used.

After the text string, similar to the illustration above has been input, another line of text can be added.

Select the Text tool, then hover the cursor over the text string, shown below.

Left click, then use the keyboard navigation keys to find the required position, then input the new line, shown below.

Moving and Relocating Text

Text and Multi Text can be relocated in the editor in the same manner as any other object. Use the Select tool, then use the Reference Point of the Selector shell, shown right as the yellow dot to relocate the entire text string.

Modifying and Editing the Text

The Text string can be edited by selecting it and using the Properties Sheet or the Selection Info Palette.

Any physical property such as layer, color, font type or justification can be modified using either the Properties Sheet or the Selection Info Palette.

In the example below, the last word has been changed from Handbook to Workbook, the Font and Height has been changed and the justification has been change to center.

Special symbols such as degree, plus/minus and diameter options can be input into the text string after identifying the insertion point of the text.

Select the Text tool from the Draw menu, then TAB to the Height and Angle fields and input the preferred text height and angle. Left click the appropriate position in the editor, then start the input of the text.

When a special symbol is required, right click and select the option from the local menu, shown below.

Auto-Numbering

The Auto-numbering tool allows you to select multiple text entities and have them auto-numbered. Numbers are placed either at the end of each text block or can replace the text block.

In the example below the 3 lines of text shown at the top of the editor will be selected.

The numbering should start at 1, shown by point 1 below.

The step is defined as adding 1 to each number, shown by point 2 below.

The object to identify is shown as text, shown by point 3 below.

The format can be a prefix such as Item [space] <N>. shown by point 4 below.

Using the Auto Numbering Text feature

Multi Text

Multi Text allows for pre formatted single or multiple lines of text to be input using a placeholder shown below.

This placeholder can be stretched to widen or shrink the paragraph margins.

Special symbols such as degree, diameter and plus/minus can also be input into the text string.

Editing of Multi Text is done by activating the Multi-Text tool, then selecting the Text Edit tool from the Inspector Bar or the Local Menu.

Worked Example

Select the Multi Text tool, then create an approximate width and angle for the text paragraph.

Pre-set the character conditions, such as the color, size font, and alignment, shown in the right panel below.

Input the text paragraph, similar to that shown below.

Modifying the Paragraph Width

Use the text placeholder to stretch or shrink the width of the paragraph, shown by the arrow below.

Modifying and Editing the Multi Text

Select the Multi Text tool, then select somewhere within the text paragraph. Highlight the word or words to change, then input the new words, similar to the illustration below.

In the example below, the text color, height, font has been changed, as well as the word ‘normally‘ changed to ‘should‘.

Moving and Relocating Multi Text

Text is transformed (moved or rotated) in the workspace in the same manner as any other object.

Text Tables

Ribbon : Draw | Draw 2D | Table
Default : Draw | Table

This tool creates a table specified by a number or rows and columns into which text can be input.

Text is input into the tables using Modify > Table.

Standard formatting of tables can be done by editing the properties of the Standard table in the Styles Manager palette or by creating a new one.

Worked Example

Select the Text Table tool, the use the data fields of the Inspector Bar to specify the number of cells.

In the example below, a 3 column, 3 data row with a single line of text per cell is inserted. The table contains no data when inserted.

Inputting Cell Data

To input information into the table cells, select Modify | Table, the select for example, the top cell (header) shown below. Input text into this cell using the Text field of the Selection Info Palette, shown below.

Modifying Cell Data

Select Modify | Table then select the table containing the populated text cells.

Click into the cell to modify, then use the Selection Info palette to modify or edit the cells, shown below. In the example below the following changes were made :

  • the alignment of the text in the first column has been changed from middle center to middle left;
  • the background color of the header was changed to a different color.
  • the background text of the header was changed to a different color.
  • The text of the bottom data cells was edited.
  • The height of the font in the header was changed
  • The Cell Margin was adjusted using the Style Manager > Tables > Standard option.

Exporting Table Data

Data which is input into the cells of a table can be exported to an external source such as an Excel spreadsheet, a Microsoft Data table, a CSV or Text format document.

Worked Example

In the example below, the data in the table has been extracted to an Excel spreadsheet.

Select Modify | Table, then select the data-populated table. Right click and select Export from the local menu.

Specify a destination file name and output type. The Excel spreadsheet, when opened should resemble the illustration below.

sTYLE MANAGER PALETTE

The Style Manager palette is used to create the default appearance of the table when it is inserted into the editor. To create a pre-formatted table, select Tools | Palettes | Style Manager, then select Table Styles | Standard. Save any changes using the Apply Style Changes option at the top of the Styles Manager palette.

Find and Replace Text

Find and Replace Text tool is available in the Edit menu, making it easier to find a specific text in the drawing and replace it with another word with one click. With a wide number of advanced search and text options, user can search for the specific text easily and replace it with less effort.
