Simple Extrude

Estimated reading: 2 minutes 5 views

In this Task

  • The new profile of the combined areas of the circle and rectangle will be extruded through the solid.
  • The extrusion will result in another solid object which will then be subtracted from the primary solid.

Before you Start

  • The extrusion will result in another solid object.
  • The view is set to Isometric South East.

Take Note

  • Take care to view the extrusion from different viewpoints. The profile must extrude completely through the primary solid.

This extrusion tool sweeps a 2D profile in a plane perpendicular to the workplane to create a 3D object.

Select the Simple Extrude tool from the menu options above, then select the newly combined 2D profile of the circle and the rectangle, shown below.

Select the 2D profile to extrude

Sweep the profile towards the opposite side of the primary solid, shown below. Use the TAB keyboard key to access the Height field, then input -10 into the Height field. Press enter to complete the extrusion.

By observing the direction of the Z axis, below, the extrusion depth must be given as a negative. A positive extrusion would travel outwards.

Sweep the profile towards the rear of the solid, input -10

Check the result from different viewpoints to verify that the shape extrudes into the primary solid.

Profile extruded through primary solid using -10 (Determined by the direction of the Z axis)

The result from different viewpoints is shown below.
