Parallel Constraint

Estimated reading: 2 minutes 6 views

In this Task

  • The Parallel constraint tool will be used to make 2 series of lines parallel to each other.

Before you Start

  • Snap modes not required.

Take Note

  • The sequence in which the lines are selected is important.
  • Menu options for the Default menu and workspace, the Ribbon and Palettes are provided directly under the Command Name heading.

Parallel Constraint

Ribbon : Insert | Constraint | Parallel
Default Menu : Constraints | Parallel
Palette : Sketch | Constraints Parallel
The parallel constraint adjusts the planar integrity of the first line so that it remains in a parallel plane with the second line. The end vertices of constrained parallel lines are collinear. The parallel relationship between such lines is maintained until the constraint is deleted.A parallel constraint symbol is inserted to indicate a parallel relationship.

Line 1 below will be made parallel to line 2 using the Parallel Constraint.

Making line 1 parallel to line 2

Select the Parallel constraint, then select line 1, then line 2. This makes line 1 parallel with line 2, shown below. Parallel Constraint markers have been added to the sketch to indicate the parallel constraint between these 2 lines shown by the arrows below.

Line 1 parallel to line 2, parallel constraint markers shown by arrows

Repeat this, making line 3 parallel to line 4, below.

The result is shown below with the Parallel constraint markers shown.

Line 3 parallel to line 4, parallel constraint markers shown
