Chamfer

Estimated reading: 2 minutes 5 views

In this Task

  • The Chamfer tool will be used to create a beveled edge between 2 lines at 90°

Associated Tasks

  • Changing object properties.
  • The instructions for this task apply to the LTE menu and Workspace, however Video Animation for the LTE and Ribbon Workspace is provided below.

Chamfer

LTE Menu and Workspace : Modify | Chamfer
Creates a beveled edge between 2 lines. When the Chamfer distance is set to 0, this method will connect a line between 2 parallel vertices. The resulting chamfer will either trim or extend the lines to the newly created edge. When both chamfer distances are set to zero, the lines will be trimmed or extended without creating a chamfer, similar to the Meet 2 Lines feature. This tool will create a chamfer on lines, polylines and double line entities. When the chamfer distance is set to 0 and the edges of two parallel lines are selected, shown below, the end vertices are  joined by a line equal to the distance between the 2 parallel lines.

Create a chamfer on the corners of the sketch, using a distance of 5 on both edges. The result is shown below.

Split Entity

LTE Menu and Workspace : Modify | Split Entity
This modification feature allows a single entity, either an arc or a line, to be segmented at a specified position.Used to split a line, double line, circle or arc into 2 or more segments. This modification tool allows a single entity to be segmented at a specified position.Temporary markers are inserted, shown below left to indicate the split segment. The Select tool is used to select, then delete a segment.

Use the Split Entity tool to divide the line shown below into two segments.

Object Properties

Select the lines which represent the center lines and move them to the layer CL using either the Layer drop down, the Design Director or the Properties Sheet.

Select the lines which represent hidden lines. Leave these lines on the Model layer, changing only their color and line style properties, similar to the illustration below.
