In this Task 

  • Two cut-outs will be created using the Parallel tool to create the offsets.

Associated Tasks 

  • The Meet 2 Lines and the Trim tools will be used to remove segments of line.

Take Note 

  • When selecting multiple lines as cutting edges for the Trim function, select the first line, then hold down the keyboard SHIFT key to select the others.

Meet 2 Lines

The Meet 2 Lines tool creates ‘corners’ of intersecting or potentially intersecting lines.The planar geometry of the lines is not compromised when using the Meet 2 Lines tool.The Meet 2 Lines tool can also be used to join the end vertices of Bezier Curves.

Select the Meet 2 Lines tool from the menu options above, then select the lines using the diagonal pairs shown in the illustration below.

The result is shown below.

Trim

Ribbon : Modify | 2D Modifications | Trim by Entity
Default Menu : Modify | Trim by Entity
Palette : Modify | Modify | Object Trim
This tool deletes the segments of lines or arcs between intersecting boundaries.The intersecting boundary edges are referred to as cutting edges.

Select the Trim tool from the Modify menu palette, then select the small vertical line shown below. Hold down the SHIFT keyboard key and select the second small vertical line, shown below.

 

take NOTE 

By holding down the SHIFT key after the first cutting edge has been selected, multiple edges can be added or removed from the Selection. Take note of the ± symbol attached to the cursor, above.

When both vertical edges are highlighted, release the SHIFT key and select the small segment of line between them, shown below. Press the ESCAPE key to complete this task.

Create new parallel lines to the measurements shown in the sketch below.

Again use the Meet 2 Lines tool to create the corners in the areas circled, shown below. Remember to select across the inner corners of the areas circled below.

The result is shown below.

Use the Trim tool by again selecting the 2 small vertical lines as the cutting edges, holding down the SHIFT key after the first line is selected. Release the SHIFT key, then trim the segment between the 2 small vertical lines, shown below.
