Printing the Drawing

Estimated reading: 2 minutes 5 views
File | Print

Drawings are seldom satisfactorily printed directly from the Model space area; views of the model are created and then inserted into the Paper layout where they are printed.

Mostly, the model is drawn at full scale in the editor, then a ‘virtual scale’ is created by applying a fixed scale to a viewport in the paper area.

Single or multiple views can be printed, as can single or multiple pages which have been created in the Paper layout.

Use this sample drawing or create a similar sketch in the editor.

Printing the entire drawing

The drawing layouts are printed by selecting the Paper layout, then using File > Print. To print all the views in the current layout, select the appropriate printer and page orientation, then select All from the print range.

By using the Print > Preview option, the layout can be viewed prior to printing, similar to the illustration below.

Page Setup Options

The orientation of the page and the printing scale should always be checked prior to printing. In this example, the Drawing Sheet Size is set to an A4 Landscape size and orientation.

The Paper Space Printing Scale should be set to 1:1 (Full Scale)

Printing a Viewport only

When viewports have been inserted into the paper layout, all or selected viewports can be printed by selecting this option from the File > Print > Print Range option.

In the illustration below, only the viewport which contains the Front Elevation view will be printed.

Printing Options

Certain drawing aids such as construction lines, a grid which appear in the model area can be printed if required. Additionally, paper features such as margins and crop marks can be printed. These options are selected using the File > Page Setup options.

The printing of Constraint Makers and Constraint Dimensions is controlled using Options > Constraints > Printing.
