Workplane by Facet

Estimated reading: 2 minutes 10 views

In this Task

  • A rectangle with blended corners will be drawn onto the front surface.
  • The Workplane will be placed on the front of the 3D objects using Workplane by Facet.

Associated Tasks

  • Drawing a rectangle with blended corners.

Take Note

  • The Workplane can be placed on either of the surface in the illustration below. Both facets lie in the same plane.

This workplane feature applies a workplane to a selected facet (flat surface) of a 3D object. The Page Up and Page Down keys can be used to cycle between the available facets of the parts.Workplanes can be placed onto a facet for single-instance applications using the Auto Workplane by Face tool.

Any object can be drawn in 3D dimensional space, providing the Workplane is in the correct plane. All 3D objects have facets (flat faces) where the Workplane can be placed in order to draw new objects.

In this task, a new Rectangle will be drawn across the front faces shown below. A vertex point will be used to start the rectangle and the overall measurements of the rectangle are shown below.

Select the Workplane by Facet tool and place the Workplane on either surface indicated above.

Rectangle with Blended Corners

Select the Rectangle tool, then start the lower left corner of the rectangle at the vertex shown below.

TAB to the size fields and input 150 x 700, then select the Blended Corners option shown below. Input a radius of 50.

The newly inserted rectangle with blended corners will now be extruded to the back face, shown below.

New rectangle extruded to back face

Select the Simple Extrude tool, then select the rectangle. TAB to the Height field and input -800. The result is shown below from World Plan view.
