Doors & Windows

Doors and Windows are smart objects. They automatically align themselves to a wall position, breaking the wall at appropriate points when a door or window is inserted. Similarly, when a door or window is deleted, the Wall break automatically heals.

Inserting Windows

Ribbon : Architecture | Openings | Window
Default Menu : Architecture | Doors, Windows & Openings | Window
Palette : Panels Setup | Architecture | Window
The Window tool allows exact placement of windows into pre drawn walls, breaking the wall on insertion. The window will automatically align itself to the wall into which it is being inserted. The Window type can be specified prior to insertion by right clicking onto the Window tool and applying the appropriate settings.

Windows can be inserted into walls by indicating the insertion position on an existing wall. The window will automatically align itself to the wall and create the necessary break on insertion.

In this example, different standard and picture windows will be inserted, using the image as a reference only.

Make sure the floor plan is viewed in World Plan view.

Using the Edit > Select by Layer > Walls tool, select, then move the floor plan to the side of the image, similar to the illustration below. This will allow the image to be used as a reference when inserting doors and windows.

Right click onto the Window tool from the menu options above. From the General page, set the Window Styles to Standard.

From the Window Main page, set the width to 1200 and the height to 1500.

Click OK when finished.

Inserting Doors

Ribbon : Architecture | Openings | Door
Default Menu : Architecture | Doors, Windows & Openings | Door
Palette : Panels Setup | Architecture | Door
The Door tool allows exact placement of doors into pre-drawn walls, breaking the wall on insertion. The door will automatically align itself to the wall into which it is being inserted. The Door type can be specified prior to insertion by right clicking onto the Door tool and applying the appropriate settings.Doors are predefined as a ‘Style’ and can be modified in the Styles palette, cascading all changes made to the style to all doors inserted in the drawing. The Selection Info palette can also be used to update a door style, cascading all updates to the doors inserted in the drawing.Measurement and positional information of individual doors can be adjusted using the Properties Sheet.Doors can be inserted with the option to create an inside/outside or a left/right flip.

Doors can be inserted in a similar manner to windows with the advantage of being able to swing the door in either a left or right direction depending on its opening and closing arc. Additionally, the door can be flipped so that it is shown with either an inside or outside opening.

Right click onto the Door tool and from the General page, set the Door style to Single. Insert the first door into the wall using a position similar to that shown in the illustration below. Use right click and select either Flip Right/Left or Flip Inside/Outside until the correct orientation is obtained.

Inserting a standard door

Insert as many doors as necessary, each time using the right click menu options to obtain the correct left/right – inside/outside door opening. The result should be similar to the illustration below.

The result when viewed from an Isometric viewpoint should resemble the illustration below. In the illustration below, the color of the doors has been changed for illustrative clarity only.

Moving & Modifying Doors & Windows

Doors and Window can be very easily manipulated in the walls. In the example below, the Window shown by the arrow will be reduced in width, then moved to the midpoint of the wall.

Double click onto the window shown by the arrow, above, then set the width in the Window main page to 900. Use the Select tool reference point to shift the window to the middle of the wall so that the result is similar to the illustration below.

Window moved using the Select tool reference point

Use a similar process to reposition and resize the doors and windows until you are satisfied with the result.

The result is shown below from an Isometric viewport and rendered using the Draft or Quality Render tool.
